Lighthouse Learning is committed to supporting young people become active citizens at a local community level and a wider global level.

Through our different groups and services we gain the views of our service users to constantly improve the services they receive.

We often act as advocates of young people with schools and colleges, enabling them to gain as much as possible from their educational opportunities.

Lighthouse Learning is currently funded by Big Lottery to develop young peoples campaigns.

The project is aimed at young people aged 10-15 years supporting them to develop their leadership and campaigning skills to make a difference to the services they receive or the community they learn or live in.

By helping young people to develop their leadership, negotiation and public speaking skills Lighthouse Learning is supporting citizens of the future.

During the first year of the project young people have:

  • Campaigned for safer school access by lobbying parents and others not to park outside their school
  • Completed a leadership course to help them identify the characteristics of positive leadership
  • Lead a sustainability day within their school looking at how a whole school approach can reduce the impact on the environment
  • Attended a conference on campaigning
  • Addressed issues of bullying and support to help bullies stop bullying

Plans for year 2 involve:

  • Supporting a group to deliver leadership training to young people in Kenya and to help build a classroom

If you think we can help your youth group school council, area forum or youth council we would like to hear from you. We will be publicising our leadership courses for the next academic year shortly so come back regularly to find out more.
